Wow - what a busy summer Sita and I have had! Here is a picture of my passing the torch to the new Excellence in Faculty Award winner with my faithful sidekick beside me. After this speech at the end of the semester we moved and I got rid of two thirds of my things. I love my smaller place and less clutter. Most of June was spent doing that. I also went to my nephew's wedding in St. Louis and we had a family reunion there! In July my sister came for a week and we drove to Cook's Forest State Park in PA and spent some time there where we went as kids on vacations. I also went on some short wonderful winery tours and trips. I spent a Diva night with my Heidelberg friends in Bolivar and Ruth, one of my college friends, came here. I finished off the summer going to visit my sister in St. Charles Missouri and attended a huge craft fair. Sita and I also signed books at a local bookstore and did some programs for her church. I have been working throughout the summer on getting ready for fall semester and it starts Monday. All good times must come to an end but we have great memories!
I have a Bachelor's degree in English from Heidelberg University and Master's degree in Library Science from Emory University in Atlanta Georgia. I obtained another Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Doctorate in Counseling and Human Services from Kent State University. I worked as a librarian for 19 years and with the Rehabilitation Services Commission with persons with disabilities for 11 years. I then worked in a private practice called Northeast Ohio Behavioral Health for 7 years. I found my true passion was teaching and writing. I have taught part time at Walsh University, Kent State University and am now at Stark State College. Presently I am teaching Deaf Culture and Introduction to Interpreting at Stark State and am immersed in several writing projects. I also visit schools, libraries, and other organizations with Sita educating people about assistance dogs. I love working at Stark State and being in an exciting place with phenomenal growth. I was overwhelmed when I was honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012! I will keep all of you posted on my writing activities in my blog.
