I HAVE NO DOUBT THERE ARE ANGELS ON EARTH. HERE IS ONE EXAMPLE. I AMD UNDERGOING A VERY INVASIVE CHEMO WHICH INVOLVES 14 SHOTS IN THE STOMACH OVER A 7 DAY PERIOD EVERY MONT. THE NURSES ARE FANTASTIC AND THERE IS ONE IN PARTICULAR THAT HAS TAKEN ME UNDER HER WING. I ASKED HER ONE DAY HOW SHE DOES THIS JOB. I COMMENTED THAT SHE MUST LOSE PEOPLE WHICH WOULD BE SO HARD. HER ANSWER WAS " I HAVE BEEN HERE 18 YEARS AND HAVE TREATED SOME OF THE PATIENTS THAT ENTIRE TIME. I ALSO GET TO MEET NICE PEOPLE LIKE YOU. WHAT IS THERE NOT TO LIKE" SHE IS TRULY AN ANGEL!!! ANGELS DO WALK THIS EARTH...HERE IS SITA WAITING PATIENTLY IN THE WAITING ROOM. SHE IS A FAVORITE AT THE CANCER CENTER!!!
OUR ADVENTURES IN WASHINGTON DC
SITA AND I HAD SOME REAL ADVENTURES IN JUNE. I HAD BEEN APPROACHED ABOUT DOING A PROGRAM NATIONALLY FOR THE HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA ON STRESS AND HEARING LOSS. I PREPARED FOR DAYS AND MARGARET STOREY AND DAWN HAYES HELPED ME WITH INFORMATION ON TRAUMA AND THE POWERPOINTS.
THE DAY WE WERE TO LEAVE - JUNE 23RD - OUR PLANE WAS CANCELLED DUE TO STORM IN DC. WQE WENT BACK TO THE AIRPORT JUNE 24TH. WE GOT UP AT 3:30 AM LEFT THE HOUSE AT 4:30 AM AND LEFT AKRON CANTON AIRPORT AT 6AM. WE LANDED AT REAGAN AND WENT TO THE HOTEL BY SHUTTLE. THE HEAD OF THE CONVENTION OFFERED US HER SUITE WHERE I SHOWERED AND CHANGED SINCE MY ROOM WAS NOT READY. THEN WE ATE AND WENT TO DO THE PROGRAM.
SITA IS 11 OR 12 AND SHE IS AMAZING. THERE WERE OVER 50 PEOPLE AND THEY KEPT COMING IN LATE. I SHOWED THEM HOW SITA HELPS ME WITH THE STRESS AND HOW SHE PICKS UP ITEMS I DROP, RESPONDS WHEN SOMEONE KNOCKS AT THE DOOR AND WHEN MY PHONE RINGS. SHE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT AND SHOWED OFF PERFECTLY. THE PEOPLE LOVED HER. I THEN LET HER GO INTO THE CROWD OUT OF VEST. SHE LOVED BEING PETTED...
I WENT TO ONE MORE PORGRAM AND THEN DINNER AT THE HOTEL. I INVITED A LONELY LOOKING LADY TO JOIN ME. SHE SAW I WAS DRAGGING AND TOLD ME TO GO TO BED. WE WENT TO OUR ROOM I SHOWERED AGAIN AND COLLAPSED - IT WAS 7:30 AND WE HAD BEEN UP SINCE 3:30. SITA BEAT ME TO THE BED. BUT WE BOTH HAD A GREAT SLEEP AND A JOB WELL DONE BEFORE WE CAME BACK ON THE 25TH TO AKRON CANTON AIRPORT. MORE ABOUT THAT LATER. WHAT A WONDERFUL DOG!!!
I have a Bachelor's degree in English from Heidelberg University and Master's degree in Library Science from Emory University in Atlanta Georgia. I obtained another Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Doctorate in Counseling and Human Services from Kent State University. I worked as a librarian for 19 years and with the Rehabilitation Services Commission with persons with disabilities for 11 years. I then worked in a private practice called Northeast Ohio Behavioral Health for 7 years. I found my true passion was teaching and writing. I have taught part time at Walsh University, Kent State University and am now at Stark State College. Presently I am teaching Deaf Culture and Introduction to Interpreting at Stark State and am immersed in several writing projects. I also visit schools, libraries, and other organizations with Sita educating people about assistance dogs. I love working at Stark State and being in an exciting place with phenomenal growth. I was overwhelmed when I was honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012! I will keep all of you posted on my writing activities in my blog.
