As i said earlier in blogs I was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia Syndrome in 2010. Little did I realize how much this cancer of the bone marrow would change my life forever. I was on oral chemo for 6 years and was fortunate to be able to work part time as a teacher., I was forced to give up my counseling job in a private practice due to fatigue. However the chemo failed to work and June 27 I started Vidaza shots. Originally I had 7 days of shots but had so many horrible side effects the doctor changed it to 5 days. Mostly terrible pain in the the stomach and arms where the injections are given. I have 2 shots every day for 5 days straight. They do not hurt much when administered, but then deep down afterwards I am sore for several weeks after. Also because I have an immune disorder I develop like a sunburn or allergy on the skin. I come home and ice and ice and ice my poor stomach..
I did not know if I could o it until I had another bone marrow biopsy last week and it is working!!! My blast count went from 5-0. The cancer no longer shows but I still have to have the chemo becasue if I stop it comes back right away. But I most of all am finding out how many friends and what a support system I have. When I posted that I was in a sort of remission I got over 130 comments from all over the country supporting me. Social media can be a positive as well as a negative. More later on how this all has changed my life. God is good!
